Welcome to FoodTrade.
We provide food business and their customers with the tools we all need to find, sell, and buy good food.
Why? Because we believe that together we can create a better, fairer food system.
We’d like to show you 3 ways to get the most from FoodTrade.
Finding the best of what's around
There's a search box on every page. From here you can search for produce or profiles (companies or organisations).
You can filter results by company type (restaurant, farm etc), by organisation (eg Soil Association organic, FairTrade); and if you’ve searched for a food you can show only those who ‘buy’ or ‘sell’.
Results are shown on the map, by distance from you. Drag the map and the results will update.
Company profiles - wikipedia style!
Each company has a profile showing what we know about what they buy and sell, who they trade with, what organisations they’re a part of, and so on.
If the menu says they sell mozzarella from Laverstocke Farm, you can add them as a stockist and add ‘mozzarella’ to their shopping list. Anyone can share what they know, so everyone can benefit.
If it’s your business and you want to add all your stockists or suppliers, do so! It’s super easy.
Oh, and whilst you're there why not vouch for produce by clicking the next to a food or drink. It will give others confidence to buy it.
A marketplace, online
This is where anyone can buy, sell, find collaborators, or find a home for surplus produce. Like a real-world market, anyone can talk to anyone, and transactions happen between you. We don’t take a cut of any transaction.
On the Activity page (the home page when you’re logged in) Click on the ‘marketplace’ tab to see everything near you.
To post an update, click on ‘Post an update’ button in the top left of the page. A form will slide open.
Whatever you post will show up immediately and be sent by email to local subscribers.
Paid subscribers can simply tweet updates. Easy peas.
Thanks for taking our tour.
The food system is complex and confusing, so we’re trying to make it simpler through transparency and open data.
We know we’re not quite there yet, but we’re continually developing FoodTrade to make it more useful and better for everyone.
FoodTrade is your food network, so please email email@example.com with any suggestions or questions.
